Backyard Mammals

March 7, 2025 by Dennis

These images were captured in my backyard at a wide range of times since 2005. In addition to the birds I have photographed, we also have resident hairy woodpeckers, fox sparrow, pine warbler, rock dove, eastern phoebe; I’m sure there are some I haven’t mentioned. We occasionally get some out-of-the-ordinary birds such as ruby-crowned kinglet, rose-breasted grosbeak, and in 2023 had four sightings of a pileated woodpecker. No photos yet.

Seeing is Believing

While mostly true, occasionally the eye can be fooled. This appears to be an earthworm on some leaf litter. It is. But the worm is four feet long and 1-2 inches in diameter. Photographed in Sumaco, Ecuador.
